St. Bernard Parish Fire Department will open fire hydrants for regular maintenance beginning Monday, April 7

The St. Bernard Parish Fire Department will begin 10 weeks of fire hydrants inspections on Monday April 7.

Throughout the parish, individual fire hydrants will be opened for approximately two minutes each to record water pressure and flow readings. The inspections will take place on Mondays through Fridays between 9 and 11 a.m.

Fire Chief Thomas Stone said that this is a necessary procedure performed twice a year to ensure all fire hydrants in the parish work properly. Residents may experience rusty water during this testing. By running water for five minutes, the rust should be flushed and then run clear.
