NEW YORK
VOLUNTEERS TO TEACH
FREE YOGA
AND MEDITATION CLASSES
Four
experienced yoga instructors from New York City will be in New
Orleans May 11-17 to offer free yoga and mediation classes to
Hurricane Katrina survivors. Allison Bridges, Jagadisa-Devasri
Dacus, Geoff Devaul and Jhon Tamayo will teach general yoga
postures, as well as meditation and relaxation techniques. The
classes are intended for both beginners and those with some yoga
experience. There will also be Therapeutic Yoga sessions for
people with injuries and/or physical limitations, and fun "Yoga
for Kids" classes as well.
This Volunteer
Service Project is being coordinated by Katie McConnell and is
part of a collaboration with 2 local yoga centers (Wild Lotus
Yoga and Swan Yoga) who will continue to make yoga resources and
outreach services available to the community over the long-term.
In St. Bernard
Parish, the New York volunteers will teach two yoga classes on
Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at the Community Center of St Bernard,
1107 LeBeau St. in Arabi. Sessions will begin at 1 and 3 p.m.
and will last about one hour. Additional sessions may be
scheduled if needed. Yoga mats will be provided and bottled
water is also available.
Anyone
interested in attending should contact the Community Center of
St Bernard at 504-281-2512 or info@ccstb.org to register for a
class on or before May 12. This number is for reservations
only.
