Parish President Guy McInnis, Sheriff James Pohlmann, District Attorney Perry Nicosia and the St. Bernard Parish Council have partnered together to establish a community wide initiative to crack down on violators. Those responsible will be fined up to $500. Chronic litter and discarded waste is not just a substantial threat to our environment, but a miserable eye sore that diminishes our community’s quality of life and is an expensive burden to citizens. It is imperative that ALL residents of St. Bernard Parish join together and do their part to help reduce litter in our neighborhoods and waterways. Section 11-20 of the St. Bernard Parish Code of Ordinances defines and addresses penalties for violators.
As part of the litter campaign employees and volunteers, this Saturday, May 19th, will hold a Trash Bash from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Martin’s Shipyard (5521 Hopedale Hwy). Please, come out and volunteer to help clean St. Bernard Parish! Volunteers should bring scoop nets, rakes, buckets and wear appropriate clothing.
