Greetings !
Update on information:
Hospital: FINALLY !! On Monday, April 19th, we will receive the approval letter to advertise for contractors to begin the site preparation of the Hospital !! Within a week or two of that approval, we should then receive the approval to advertise and select a contractor to build the Hospital !! The work in the past year has paid off and we are now moving forward to begin the construction of the hospital ! I will keep you posted as we move forward on this project. Slab removal: As many of you may know, I recently led the charge to move 5 million dollars from slab removals to the Hospital Project. This money was not for road home slab removals, rather it was for PRIVATE owner's slabs to be removed. While we have many other ways to which we may remove private owners slabs, we do not have many ways to fund the hospital project. Therefore, I believe it makes much more sense to fund the hospital and look for the alternative ways to assist private owners remove their slabs. Also, I want the private owners to apply for ICC grants since that is also another way for those private slabs to be removed. Lastly, if we are fortunate enough to receive more funding for the hospital, then we may redirect those funds back to the Parish Government as a sort of "replacement" of that money.
Garbage Contract Amendment: I have recently introduced an ordinance to call for an amendment to the garbage collection contract. This amendment will provide for a physical count of all houses, business places, and trailers to be conducted annually by a representative from St. Bernard Parish Government, and SDT. This count will then be used to pay SDT for household collection for the entire fiscal year. This method is recommended by the inspector general, and will eliminate the need for stickers and provide us with an accurate count to ensure that we don't spend more money than we have to for our garbage collection. Our original contract calls for household pickup and should not be measured by the number of cans. This should eliminate any future problems with respect to garbage collection and the payment thereof.
I would like to thank all of you who have contacted me with your letters and words of support, I truly appreciate the kindness.
As always, my door is open to anyone who may need my assistance. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I may be of service to you. Thanks, Wayne J. Landry
