The Department of Community Development includes the Offices of Safety and Permits, Planning and Zoning, and Coastal Zone Management. Community Development is dedicated to fostering safe, sustainable, and smart development in St. Bernard Parish and our vision is that of a resilient and thriving community that provides an excellent quality of life to its inhabitants. Our offices value public service, community spirit, and the pursuit of a higher standard of living. Comprehensive Plan Updates
Proposed DFIRMS (Dgitital Flood Insurance Rate Maps) Published and
Ready for Review :
For information concerning the newly proposed Flood Insurance Rate Maps for
St. Bernard Parish access this link to find your property and learn of any changes
that may affect your flood insurance rates. These maps are available for public
viewing in the Office of Community Development. There will be a 90 day appeal
period from the date of an open house (TBA) hosted by SBPG and then the maps will
become effective six months after adoption by the Council pending any appeals. New
insurance rates are not available until the maps become effective.

The Office of Safety and Permits processes applications and issues permits for both residential and commercial construction.
|Office of Planning and Zoning
The Office of Planning and Zoning processes applications for zoning changes; zoning compliance letters; conditional uses; dimensional variances; parking variances; and new subdivisions.
|Office of Coastal Zone Management
The Office of Coastal Zone Management processes applications for Coastal Zone Permit (CZP) and serves as a liaison between St. Bernard Parish and all state and federal coastal wetlands regulatory agencies.
