Nunez PTEC Department Hosts Career Fair

nunez_ptecThe Process Technology (PTEC) Department of Nunez's Industrial Maintenance Program held its annual Career Fair on Thursday, April 3rd in the Physical Activity building on the Nunez Campus.  

Local industry partners including Air Products, Domino Sugar, Entergy, Exxon Mobil, Intralux, Laitram, Motiva Enterprises, Murphy Oil Corporation, Phillips 66 Conoco 76, Shell, and Valero Meraux Refinery participated, offered industry insight to future process technicians. Some companies also offered job placement opportunities and detailed information about their distinct products and company practices. Don Hoffman, Director of Technology Programs, says 74%, or at least seven out of every ten Nunez PTEC students, are placed in jobs with Nunez industry partners.

On hand for the celebration were Parish President David Peralta, Chamber Chairman Fred Sigur and a number of Chamber members, representatives from the Sheriff's Office and the Chalmette High School Band and Cheerleaders. Spring Art Show returns to Nunez College

The 15th Annual Spring Art Show returns to Nunez Community College. The Art Show will open on Thursday, April 24th with a reception in the Music Room from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Entries will remain on display until 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 30th.  

Submissions of original drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures and other pieces from students and community members are currently being accepted until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16th, and all artwork should be brought to either Room 231 or the Arts & Humanities office, both located in the Arts, Sciences and Technology (AST) Building on the Nunez campus.

On hand for the ribbon cutting were Parish President David Peralta, Chamber Chairman Fred Sigur and Chamber Executive Director Stephen Reuther.

fire hydrant_300ST. BERNARD FIRE DEPARTMENT TO BEGIN FIRE HYDRANT INSPECTIONS ON TUESDAY, APRIL 14, 2014

The St. Bernard Parish Fire Department shall commence Fire Hydrants Inspections on Tuesday April 1, 2014. Throughout the parish, individual fire hydrants will be opened for approximately two minutes to record water pressure and flow readings.  

The inspection times will be between 9:00 am and 11:00 am Monday through Friday, until testing of all hydrants are completed.

This is a necessary procedure performed twice a year to ensure that all fire hydrants in the parish work properly. Residents may experience rusty water during this testing period. By running water for five minutes the rust should be flushed and clear up.

The Fire department would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Application deadline is April 16, 2014  

St. Bernard Parish is accepting applications for the position of Registrar of Voters now through April 16, 2014. Applicants must be a resident and qualified voter of St. Bernard Parish.

POWERS AND DUTIES OF REGISTRARS

A. Subject to the direction of the secretary of state and as provided by law, the registrar in each parish shall be responsible for the registration of voters in the parish he/she serves and for the administration and enforcement of the laws and the rules and regulations of the secretary of state relating to the registration of such voters. He/She shall participate in the state voter registration computer system established pursuant to R.S. 18:31 and shall provide all necessary assistance to the secretary of state to effectuate the inclusion of his parish in that system.

UNO and Nunez Sign Articulation Agreement in Business Administration

An articulation agreement between the University of New Orleans and Nunez Community College will allow Nunez students to transfer into programs in the College of Business Administration at UNO.  

UNO President Peter J. Fos and Nunez Chancellor Thomas R. Warner participated in a signing ceremony today at UNO's Lakefront campus. The agreement will facilitate course transfer from Nunez's business programs into UNO's undergraduate programs in accounting; business administration; finance; hotel, restaurant and tourism administration; management; and marketing.
