Lead Service Line

In 2021, the Environmental Protection Agency issued the Lead and Copper Rule Revision (LCRR). This revised rule mandates that all water systems must complete and publish an initial inventory of all potable service lines within their system on October 16, 2024. Our initial inventory phase of the LCRR is primarily focused on researching historical subdivision records and as-built plans of line replacement projects. Any subdivision built after the enforcement of the Safe Drinking Water Act Amendments on September 20, 1988 is considered “lead free”.

The LCRR requires St. Bernard Parish Water and Sewer Division to inspect service lines on the system side and customer side of the meter.  When complete, this inventory will allow the system to identify and replace lead service lines on the system side of the meter and will also allow the system to identify and notify customers of the presence of lead service lines on the customer’s side of the meter. The goal of the LCRR is to have all existing lead service lines completely replaced and removed from the water system by October 2037.

Below is a searchable document to assist our customers in identifying the status of their service lines. Lines are classified the following way:

Lead: A portion of the pipe that is made of lead, which connects the water main to the building inlet.

Galvanized Requiring Replacement (GRR): A galvanized service line that is or ever was downstream of a Lead Service Line (LSL) or is currently downstream of an unknown service line.

Non-Lead: The service line is determined not to be lead or GRR through an evidence-based record, method, or technique.

Unknown: The service line material is not known to be a lead, GRR or non-lead, such as where there is not documented evidence supporting material classification.
