The Parish entered into an exciting new partnership this summer with Nunez Community College Welding Program. Collaborating with Professor Jesus Melendez and his students, the class created designs for amenities in coordination with Parish representatives. Over the course of the term, they we able to manufacture 2
types of bicycle racks, 2 styles of benches, 5 storage bins, and a set of park bleachers.
Installations are planned at existing and future trail access locations for the Mississippi River Trail and 40 Arpent Trail in Arabi, Chalmette, Meraux, Violet, and Braithwaite.
Parish President Pomes attended the final meeting of the class along with Nunez Chancellor Dr. Tina Tinney to view the products, meet the class, and thank them personally. President Pomes expressed his thanks for the great work as the Parish has just started developing the trail system and has yet explored amenities. This partnership is a great benefit to the Parish, and we hope it was a fun and rewarding experience for the students. The Parish also thanked Dr. Tinney and the staff of Nunez for their wonderful cooperation. We look forward to continuing this partnership in the years ahead.
