The Parish is currently constructing the first phase of the Forty Arpent Trail that will extend approximately 10 miles from Arabi (Heights Park located at 1914 Alexander Avenue) east to the Violet Canal.
The trail will follow along the base of the back levee through Arabi, Chalmette, Meraux and into Violet.
The project includes several bridges and links to existing bridges that will provide access points to the trail including Heights Park, the Wetlands Observatory off Jean Lafitte Parkway in Chalmette, and Val Reiss Park at the end of Palmisano Blvd. among others.
The trail will be an asphalt paved trail suitable for walkers, joggers, bicyclists, skaters, and other non-motorized users.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2023
